Sometimes we can all get a little annoyed at our daily commute – but imagine getting up at 4.00am to walk three hours to work (if you’re one of those lucky enough to have a job). Then imagine the life-changing effect of something as simple as a bicycle. Three hours become less than one. Children see their parents in the morning and again at night.
On an island ravaged by fuel shortages, bicycles are an increasingly important form of transport – but in incredibly short supply. For many of the poorest in Haiti, even a second hand bike is prohibitively expensive to buy.
The staff of Cork Institute of Technology have helped us to ship over 100 bikes, tricycles and scooters to Haiti, giving many orphaned children their first opportunity to ride a bike and many others a way to get to jobs that they simply cannot afford to lose.
As always we are humbled by the generosity of our donors and make sure that your kindness finds it’s way to those who need it most.
